The Boss

We commonly ask Addie, "Who is the boss around here?" She always answers correctly, "mommy & daddy," but in the following stories you'll see why we ask.

Last week, I had to take all the kids to Critical Care, which is code for "Care in a really long time from now." Em has had boogers galore for about a month now (with occasional fevers, a sore throat and a croupy cough). No end in sight. She had spent most of the day in the nurse's office and that was the final straw in getting me to visit the dreaded Critical Care. Upon arriving, we waited in the lobby, cloaking ourselves in stranger germs. Our last trip, a month ago with Titus, lasted 5 hours. But this time I came equipped: books, snacks, crayons, & stickers....Bring it on Critical Care you've got an expert on your hands! ...I wanted to cheer! Gladly, we were only in the lobby an hour before we were escorted to our lovely room.

A half an hour later our doctor came in, welcomed by Addie's, "Somebody's finally here!" He introduced himself as Dr. so-in-so, to which Addie replied, "You're not the doctor" (she walked past him & opened the door looking for the real one). He then introduced himself saying, "I'm not just a doctor, I'm the doctor of all the doctors" (yep, we had the Chief of Pediatrics on our hands and at the mercy of my dear child's tongue). So, Addie looked at him bewildered, "Then where is your white coat?" (He was dressed in slacks & no white coat). He had a chuckle, and commented that they were all in the dirty clothes basket. Sensing the sassy caution in her voice, he took us next door to his office where we got to see all his pictures and degrees. He was great with Emma and took sweet care of her. He looked in her ears, her throat, and nose, asked me some questions and minutes later we were given the "common cold" diagnosis and sent on our way...thanks to Addie-we certainly left our mark.

Story #2
This morning Addie joined me at the breakfast table.
She opened with, "You know what I did last night?"
I said, "What did you do last night, Addie?"
She replies, "I told Jesus to come into my heart."
I love it! The girl didn't ask Jesus- she told Him. And because He made her, I know He wasn't at all surprised by her style of invitation! I pray one day she will know that the Jesus in her heart is the Jesus who tells the wind and waves what to do.
Praise the Lord for the different ways He creates us-not one in the same.

I am so touched & tickled by the unique differences God has fashioned into my children. It is one of the joys of motherhood to watch my little ones take shape. God's fingertips have touched every fiber of their being and He knows and loves them even more than me...it is hard to imagine the greatness of that love. I am glad He knows them better than me because it is His wisdom & grace I need to love them into the big people they will be someday. And maybe even one day, Addie will confidently sport a white coat of her own.
