Character Counts

The other day after school Emma came running towards me sporting a very cool sticker!  She was proud.  She was ecstatic. Later that night at dinner, I asked her how she got the sticker.  She said, "Today I brought my work up to my teacher and she asked me how I got all my answers." I told her, "I looked on Hayden's paper"(aka cheating). She said to me, "Emma, thank you for being honest in a time where you could have chosen to lie."  Then her teacher awarded her with the Sellers Elementary TRUSTWORTHY Student sticker.  Huh? At this moment, Brian and I are at a loss for words.  She proudly continued, "I mean, can you believe it!  I was only 1 of 2 kids in my class to be given this award.....lots of kids do things right in front of the teacher to try to get a sticker, like helping a classmate find their lost homework, but I was being me, just being honest and I got one."

So next time your kid cheats and they tell the truth-reward them.  They trip a kid on the playground and then confess-give 'em a high five.  They take from your hidden stash of Oreo cookies and admit their wrong-give them a sticker, maybe even another Oreo.
Nothing says trustworthy more than coming clean after cheating:)

Here she is....Seller's Elementary Trustworthy student, Emma.
Can you believe those big brown eyes did some big cheatin' ?
If it were up to me, I'd give her the "Sweetest Lookin' Little Thing Ever" sticker.

I'm dying laughing.

I would reward truth telling over punishing cheating anyday!!
