We're back to earth...
is what Emma said as we drove out of the Sequoia draped mountains and onto the freeway home. We spent this last weekend at Hume Lake (Brian was a guest speaker for a football camp).
We are indeed a little bit closer to heaven up there and surely feel like we've stolen a glimpse of the real deal.
We collected lots of dirt, caught all sorts of ladybugs, jumped in creeks, made bear caves out of sticks, ate peppermint milkshakes, got really close to 5 deer, and watched 500 high school boys play dodge ball every night.
~One more shining moment from the weekend~
We were returning late one night from dodge ball, when Brian accidentally stepped on the back of Emma's flip flop . Tired, she went aggro on him and was all caught up in huffing and puffing, when Addie found the perfect thing to say. (Addie always has the best things to say at the worst moments).
From the back of the family line, Addie retorts (in the somewhat smarty junior high tone),
"Um, Emma, isn't your middle name Grace?
...because I think that maybe you should be showing some right now. Daddy just needs a little grace."
After those well stated words of wisdom, the huffing and puffing magically stopped and we all lived happily ever after...just kidding.
So, last night when Addie was being grumpy frumpy on the way to bed, I politely reminded her what her middle name was, Joy, and how maybe she could show a little more of it on her way to bed. She cracked a smile, knowing I had just used her own material on her. I wonder where she got her tongue from...that peppy little child of mine.
Happy Wednesday and if you've got a middle name-live it out! And in your less than shining moments today, I'm sure you'll be glad it's not Grace or Joy :)

live out my middle name huh...i had to look it up, the meaning, not the name.
from my favorite name site behindthenamedotcom:
ELIZABETH
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English, Biblical
Pronounced: i-LIZ-ə-bəth (English) [key]
From Ελισαβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath" or perhaps "my God is abundance".
