Besides a Super73, this Spider-Man suit was ALL this guy wanted to have for his birthday. He is unashamed in his fervor for Spider-Man. I love it. I love the heart of a boy, and I love how rescue, heroics, and beholding superpowers are keenly knit into their inmost being. To know you have a mighty, beyond this world huge, spectacular, out of your own ability mission to accomplish-that is the image of God in my sons.At first, he said to me, “Mom, I may keep my new suit for just Eli to see. He wants to be Spider-Man someday too, so I think he’d think it was cool. I don’t know if I’ll show it to everybody.” Within 7 seconds of his guests arriving, he had already pulled it out to show them all and the one friend was already up to his hips pulling it on.
God created us in HIS image man and woman he created us. With intention, intimacy, and purpose he formed my Nehemiah. He set in his heart the hope to rescue, to lead from the front, and to stand up for a purpose greater than himself.
You may think he just wanted a Spider-Man suit, but trust me he wants far more.
God, fill my boy with your Spirit as he enters this world set on walking away from you and into the arms of evil. Use my boy to stand in evil’s way. May your Spirit be his superpower. Give him eyes to see your mission, a heart for people in need, and the bravery to be a man of action.
